Frequently Asked Questions

The following are some frequently asked questions from our customers...

Q: If I have wet carpet, tile, walls/ceiling, and/or contents, why cant I let these items dry on their own?

A: The only way to properly dry wet building materials and contents is to use blowers and dehumidifiers; you will almost certainly develop mold/mildew if you allow building materials and contents air dry.

Q: How long will the equipment run and should I keep it on 24 hours a day?

A: Drying usually takes a minimum of 3 days, but it varies according to size of loss, indoor/outdoor conditions, and the affected materials.  Equipment may be turned off to sleep.

Q: What do I do if I have visible mold, is it dangerous?

A: Do not use bleach to clean yourself or put a fan on it to dry, let Jarvis inspect and recommend the proper course of action.  A moldy indoor environment may cause a variety of adverse health effects to occupants exposed over long periods of time.

Q: Does Jarvis Restoration handle the repairs too?

A: Yes, Jarvis handles structural/contents drying as well as repairs and restoration.  These services include, but are not limited to, drywall repair, finish carpentry, carpet/tile/wood flooring, paint, etc.

Q: Does Jarvis Restoration offer a warranty on their services?

A: Yes, a 3 year warranty covers all workmanship performed by Jarvis.  Also, any manufacturers warranties will be transferred to the customer.

Q: If I refuse your recommendation on any part of the the drying or structural repairs, do I still get a full warranty?

A: NO all work on the approved scope of work must be performed by Jarvis Restoration.

Q: Does Jarvis restore damaged personal property?

A: Yes, clothing, upholstered/wood furniture, documents, window coverings, etc. are handled by an experienced Personal Property division, and restored.

Q: Should I be concerned if the loss is gray or black water ie toilet or sewer backup?

A: Yes, bacteria-ridden water from these sources may pose a significant risk to ones health, especially if ingested.  All porous items that have been saturated should be discarded in most cases.

Q: Do I need to call my insurance company and get approval before you start drying and remove affected materials?

A: No, your insurance company expects you to be pro-active in precluding any secondary damage like mold.  Drying should be started as soon as possible.

Q: Do I have to use my Insurance Companys preferred vendor?

A: No, insurance law allows a consumer the right to choose any licensed contractor specializing in water damage.

Q: How do you establish pricing guidelines, and are they fair and accepted in the insurance industry?

A: Jarvis uses the same estimating price list, Xactimate, as 75% of insurance companies and agrees to a total scope price by meeting with adjusters on-site.

Q: Does Jarvis Restoration do additional work (repairs, renovations, upgrades, etc.) that is not covered in the claim?

A: Yes, any additional work requested will be bid and will often be more affordable because workers are already set up on site.
